Prehistory Blog Assignment

After examining your time line, Human Origins in Africa, class room notes and your life experiences place visuals with captions on your blog that define, give examples of and connect to your world the following.

1. Key differences between humans and other species

http://bubblingbrain.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/humans.jpg

Answer:  The key difference between humans and other species: They speak different languages. Well we speak English or American but other species don't speak the language we speak. For example birds don't talk to humans we can not understand them. But they have a way to talk to each other a way to interact. Also we have abstract thinking. Which is to think outside of the immediate. Thinking outside the immediate is basicly thinking about what will happen before something happens. For example cat's don't really think what's going to happen in the future they just lay their. As for us we think/ask ourselves about what we want to do for a job?, or were are we going to be in 20 years?, are we going to live that long? and so on. Advantages we have that other species don't have are that we can organize to hunt/gather. We didn't just go out and hunt and hope we find something. We took time to organize how to hunt? and what we were going to use to hunt what are we to hunt? We weren't just going to just say hey look it's my brother or best friend lets hunt them. Humans take time to organize the hunt. Same with gathering food. Humans had a advantage to gather more than hunt. We also had a advantage to worn off predators which comes back to the whole language thing. If we couldn't talk we couldn't worn off our prey and alot of people could have died. Species can hunt but they don't really plan it out they just go with the moment. Species can gather things but not as well as humans because we have fingers to help pick up things. Through out the years Humans also pass on culture. If humans didn't pass on culture we probably wouldn't be were we are today. For Species it kind of hard to pass on culture because they pretty much do the same thing but in a slight different way.

2. Lucy

The image “http://images.livescience.com/images/070807_ap_lucy_bones_02.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Answer: Lucy was a Australopithicine. Which is a primate(mamal with flexable hands and feet.)She was also a Hominid(2 legged primate) She lived 3.5 million years ago. She walk upright and had opposable thumbs. Mosly like us but there all extinct. That make me wonder if we will become extinct in a few years. Lucy is alot like us but she probaly had alot of different qualities to her. No one can be sure. By my beliefs I don't 100% believe in most of the scientific ways. So The cycle of how we got here kind of makes me wonder if it is false. Most people believe that we were formed by monkey because we look like them. But how do they know for sure. I personally don't believe we came from a monkey and I don't believe the science way of how we came to this earth.

3. Homo Habilis

Answer: Homo habilis also known as Handyman. They are called handyman because they were the 1rst tool makers. They made the uni-Facial tool (one tool) Homo habilis were around about 2 million years ago. Their brain size was the size of a modern two year old. That is small but little kids are actually pretty smart. Just because their brain is small dosn't mean they didn't have an ability to invent things. Little kids have a wide imagination so that could be how they invented a new tool. The world will never know. I have a four year old sister and she knows alot. I think of her as a smarty pants. But I don't think they are uncapable of things.

4. Homo Erectus
http://www.sint-barbara.be/humaniora/images/homo_erectus2.jpg

Answer: Homo Erectus were around about 1.5 million years ago. They were the 1rst migrated out of Africa. They also Domesticated fire. Which they probably didn't invent fire. They made clothing. They could have been canabils. They also had a Ethnographic analogy. Which is basically a way to compare culture. (comparing of Alaskan native teeth to Homo Erectus teeth were Fairly the same) If the Homo Erectus didn't invent clothing than we probably would be with out clothes. To us that is a little disturbing. I personally don't believe in this because I have a religious belief. I like to look at the scientific ways of thinking to because it gives me a better prospective on things. But if the Homo Erectus was alive they found how to keep a fire going which is a big help today. Today we use fire for heat and camping. Also some people use fire for making tools and for other jobs that are necessary for fire. So with out the help of Homo Erectus we would be with out fire and clothing. The Homo Erectus has a way to compare culture. Which is basically a way to tell different cultures and show you are different from other people. Today people still use different cultures. We believe in different things and we live a life a different way. For example some people believe in religion and some believe in scientific ways. But nobody's wrong in what they believe. It's how they act that proves them wrong.

5. Homo Sapiens

http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/942/664684.JPG

Answer: Homo sapiens were around 300,000 years ago They are like modern humans. They were the first to make art on cave walls. Today we still use art. The Homo sapiens were the first to have good thinking. Like today we have good thinking and creative thinking. If it wasn't for the Sapiens we wouldn't have our famous painters or writers like we do today. The sapines are a lot like us today in the modern world. My belief is still not with the prehistoric time. I have a different belief but it's interesting to see what scientist come up with it gives me a bigger prospective on life. The way of life is a big question to a lot of people. How did we get here? why are we here? what's our purpose in life? no one really knows we believe in different things but no one can really say for sure. But if these sapiens lived on earth they made a big impact on what we do today.

6. Neanderthals

http://metamedia.stanford.edu/imagebin/dumb-Neanderthal.jpg

Answer: Lived 200,000 to 30,000 years ago. The Neanderthals were so much like us. They burried their dead, just like today we burry dead people. We also have a ceremony for them because we care for them. Just like the Neanderthals they cared for others also known as Altruism. Many people today care for other people thats how we survive today because other people care and take care of us till we are old enough to go out in the world and help others. They have language capabilities. Just like today we talk to people to communicate. Thats what the Neanderthals did to communicate as well. They made advanced tools they joined the tools together to make 2 tools. Just like most of the tools we have today. Today we ask ourselves are the Neanderthals are different species or different race? The answer is different species. How could you determine that? I'm not quite sure. But if the Neanderthals did live once on this earth than they made life like we live it today.

7. Cro-Magnon

http://weblogs.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/blog/cavemen2.jpg

Answer: Lived over 40,000 years ago. The Cro-magnon are also known as Homo sapiens but they lived in Europe. They pretty much took over Europe. Since the cro magnon's are sapiens they were the first to make art and jewelry. Like today art and jewelry are very popular. Many people enjoy art and art is very cultural. It can help identify a persons culture. The Cro-magnon's also had a social standing or a social class. Today we have a social class. For example government could be a class. movie stars and famous people are a higher class such as first class. People like us could be more middle class and the poorer people are more lower class. It all has to do with money. I personally believe that money doesn't have to do with anything and social class. The whole idea of a social class is unnecessary because it really has no point. It's basically says that if you have more class then  your better than the person who has no class. That's not really far on my part. Everyone should be happy how were are here. Most people don't take in consideration about how and why were here they just want material things so they can say their better than the rest. This doesn't apply for everyone it just applies for some people. But most people don't think about the simple things like how and why we are where we are.
